GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERN

The FRONT is seeking a Graphic Design Intern for spring semester 2018 (January-May, start and end dates flexible). The Graphic Design Intern will, under the supervision of the head of our social media department and our post-production team, learn what it’s like to work in a small but fast-paced and energetic media start-up. They will have the opportunity to contribute to creative discussions and get hands-on experience helping to design web content. Most importantly, they will be able to learn from professionals in the field and develop their graphic design skills in a creative, supportive, and educational environment.

The FRONT is a new media cult and creative cultural force built on feminism. Run by an all-female executive team, we incubate, develop and produce stories through an alternative female lens (including female-identifying and trans). Each story we tell becomes an opportunity to engage our community – artists, activists, musicians, scientists, designers, and marketers – to create a universe that lives offline as well as on. We value diversity; people of color, Native people, and people from the LGBTQ+ and disabled communities are encouraged to apply.

Requirements:
-Must be currently enrolled as a student and able to take the internship for course credit. We will require a letter or other statement from your educational institution (on university letterhead) stating that you will be receiving credit for the internship.
-Must submit a brief cover letter and portfolio as part of the review process. You can send these to wttf@thefront.com.
-Graphic design experience; experience with Google Slides and Keynote
-Experience with the following applications favored – Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere
-An extra plus if you know WordPress or light html!
-An open mind and a creative eye. We’re looking for a fresh take, a positive attitude, and a commitment to growth & learning.

Responsibilities:

-Taking part in graphic design projects, with supervision and guidance from our Creative Lead
-Collaborating on and contributing creative ideas for social media
-Assisting with graphic needs for The FRONT’s website

This is an unpaid internship and is only available for school credit – we regret that we cannot provide pay at this time. The FRONT is committed to your education and to making sure you get the most out of the experience. The above are sample tasks intended to serve as a framework from which we will work to individualize your internship based on your interests. Let us know what you would like to focus on, your career goals, and what you hope to learn during your time with us so we can get you involved with things that excite you! You will have full access to our staff, which includes designers, social media mavens, producers, and entrepreneurs. We look forward to being your mentors, coaches, connections, and friends.

We are willing to work with you regarding your schedule – start and end dates are flexible. Work days and hours are also flexible depending on your needs as an individual and the credit requirements of your educational institution.
